Q: Can you visit my workplace to help me implement a lockout procedure?
A: Yes, this is part of our services. If you are based in the UK mainland, we may be able to survey at no cost, no obligation. Depending on the distance away, and the possible duration of the survey, we may have to make a charge. Please call us to discuss your requirements.
Q: What is the best lockout for a ball valve?
A: There is a wide choice to make but we can help you choose the right lockout by asking a few simple questions. For example, is the valve lever or wheel operated? Does the valve need to be locked open and/or closed? Please call and we'll talk you through the options.
Q: What does PUWER '98 say about lockout tagout equipment?
A: PUWER '98 is very non-specific when it comes to lockout tagout. It emphasises the need to safeguard against unexpected startup but does not recommend particular products or equipment. It places onus of the machinery builder AND the machinery operator to minimise the risk of injury. It requires that "reasonably practicable" measures are taken in order for the equipment to operate safely. There are a number of organisations who run courses on the requirements of PUWER '98 and we recommend anyone involved in machinery design, operation and maintenance take part. Q: I'm not sure which lockout I need for an MCB miniature circuit breaker?
A: First download our circuit breaker lockout selection guide. If you still can't find the right lockout from this list, send us a digital photo of the breaker and we can recommend the most suitable breaker lockout.
Q: I want a lockout kit but there's so many to choose from. Which is best for me?
A: There are two factors to consider. 1) The content in the kit and 2) the portability of the kit. Most lockout tagout kits that we offer can be categorised by electrical isolation or valve isolation. If you need to have your kit with you all the time, consider a waist/belt pouch kit with carefully selected contents. If you're a training officer you're likely to need a lot more content so take a look at the toolbox type kits.
Remember, you can buy the empty kit holders and pick your own contents.
