How to Apply BS EN 17975: 2025 to the Personnel in my Business?

A new safety standard was published last year. It is BS EN 17975: 2025 Maintenance – Risk control processes of energies and fluids in maintenance activities.

Because of its relevance to Total Lockout’s area of work, we are sharing some of the content to help businesses adopt, comply and be safe.

All businesses of relevance will have employee statuses, job titles, roles etc, and the names of those will be different from company to company.

But when it comes to plotting safe working practices, you might find it useful to apply role names, as taken from the standard.

Section 3.5 of the standard is called “Terms and definitions related to people”. This is what they are:

  • Employer
  • Plant Manager
  • Ordering Party
  • Operations Manager
  • Lockout/Tagout Officer
  • Lockout Officer
  • Lockout/Tagout Manager
  • Maintainer
  • Works Officer
  • Activity Officer
  • Operator
  • Test Officer
  • Safety Supervisor

Follow the Total Lockout blog to learn how these differ and what their responsibilities are in future posts.
