How to Identify Valve Position When a Lockout Device is Fitted

There are many methods of indicating the open/closed status of a valve. This mainly involves the use of tags in various forms.

These can be simple red/green paper tags, laminated tags offering greater tolerance to the environment, or even stainless-steel dog tags.

The new labelling system from Total Lockout is used in conjunction with a valve wheel lockout. A self-adhesive label, applied to the lockout cover to clearly indicate whether the valve is open or closed.

These labels are available in red (locked closed) or green (locked open) and size matched to the applicable lockout device.
